Framed Roman Artifact Item Number: F3 Socketed Barbed Javelin Head - Legionare Weapon Roman Empire - 1st - 3rd Century Material - Iron Length - 9.3cm Excavated - Balkins
This is a barbed throwing javelin head. It would have been employed on a long shaft and carried by infantry. As advancing infantry would approach the enemy, javelin with these barbed projectiles would be hurled at the opposing army. Large barbed design would have been employed against enemies of light or no armor with devastating results. Wide slashing head features two elongate barbs that would make it impossible to remove without severe wound damage. Twisted wrought neck design provided added strength upon impact. |

Framed Roman Artifact Item Number: F4 Tanged Arrowhead- Calvary Archer's Weapon Roman Empire - 1st - 3rd Century Material - Iron Length - 12.1 cm Excavated - Balkins An arrowhead of this design would have been employed by an archer on horseback using a compact bow and arrow system for rapid and unencumbered deployment. Cavalry archers preferred smaller and/or rhomboid cross-section design arrowheads of low profile.
