  • The Roman Imperial era was inaugurate when on this day in 27 BC the Senate proclaimed Ocatavian to be "Augustus."
  • On this day in 69 AD Otho announced that he was capitulating the throne as he was horrified by the prospect of shedding more Roman blood in a quest for personal glory.  Following a night of meditation, he committed suicide the next morning.
